Stay close to me traveller, as I guide you through our village. Folk here welcome strangers, however you may be set to work, fetching water, chopping wood and grinding grain, these chores are back breaking and unending…perfect for a slave.

Here on the outskirts of our village, is where you can see our farmer Alaric out on the field tending to his harvest……

Mind your feet here, the ford is not deep but the footing is slippery, if you were to fall into the water, you would be carried downriver into Fiscbruts fishing nets and eel traps. He would not be best pleased with you, however you would become a source of much amusement in the Tavern.

You might want to hold your breath here friend, this is Grimbol, the village Tanner. The smell of rotting meat and stale urine, keeps most people away from his home. His skill working with leather keeps him busy, making belts, scabbards and pouches.

Lets head further into the village, if you look around friend, you will see many of the folk busy with various crafts.

This is Etheldreda’s home, she is often seen spinning wool and Tablet Weaving. The woman standing near her is Withburg, the village dressmaker. These women often work together to make Slengr… and gossip.

Come this way friend, the hearth fire is ablaze and something smells good.

This is the heart of our community, the fire. All our meals are prepared and cooked here by Eadgth and Alfred. Ahh you are in luck my friend, tonights meal is pork and apple stew with Lyndisfarne eggs…

We will return to the fire tonight, my friend, with full cups of frothy ale and the young Skald, Torstein, telling tales and sagas of heroes past.

But for now, lets move on.

As you can see there is more people plying there trade, wood carving, wool dyeing, and fletching of arrows,to name but a few.

Of course its not all work and trading, we do make time for games, such as Hnefatafl and Kubb… between you and me friend, I like to have a wager with the dice, out of sight of Prior Godwyn of course.

Traders also come and go in the village, as you can see here, Gunnar is selling his wears, I have my eye on the Deer hide he has for sale…

Be quiet now my friend, we are now nearing Prior Godwyn, a fair but grim man, just be mindful of your behaviour while you are here, any misconduct will have you on your knees, repenting for your sins at the Altar…apparently…so i’ve been told…

The grand looking woman, lounging in the hall, is our Lady Aelfina. It’s best to bow your head here friend and hope that you can go unnoticed, she owns most of the land here and the people too.

Ah, here we are on the outer edge of the village, as you can see by the closely guarded weapons rack, this is the field we train in. Young Osric is being reprimanded by Bjorn, it seems for a careless blow with his axe…I hope Dunstan recovers soon.
